Re-Imagining the Fight: Knowing What is Worth Fighting For featuring baby grandniece Zaniya Marie

As the seasons change, I have welcomed my grandniece, Zaniya Marie, into this world. She is absolutely adorable. With her bright eyes and peaceful spirit, she reminds me that there is still hope and promise for the future.

Yet her arrival also reminds me that each generation must decide what is worth fighting for and what that fight should look like. I want her to inherit a future filled with the freedoms, opportunities, and possibilities that previous generations prayed for, sacrificed for, and, in many cases, gave their lives to secure.

Only you can decide what is worth fighting for. In this pivotal moment in history, we must reimagine the fight. We can learn from the courage and strategies of those who came before us while also challenging actions and attitudes that threaten our values and attempt to move us backward rather than forward.

I believe anything that jeopardizes our freedom, dignity, opportunities, or ability to thrive is worth fighting for. Your fight may take many forms, but consider these five areas:

1. Fight for Your Faith

2. Fight for Your Peace

3. Fight for Your Purpose

4. Fight for Your Hope

5. Fight for What Truly Matters

We all have limited time, energy, and emotional resources. Fighting every battle can leave us exhausted and distracted from the things that matter most. Wisdom requires us to discern which battles align with our values and purpose and which ones simply drain our strength.

So what can we do?

Start by evaluating where you invest your time and energy. Prioritize God, meaningful relationships, your well-being, and the work that reflects your values. Learn when to stand firm, when to speak up, and when to walk away.

The Bible tells us in I John 4:1, Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Ecclesiastes 3:8, A time to love, and a time to hate, a time for war, and a time for peace. Ephesians 6:11, Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

The fight is not always against another person. Sometimes the battle is against fear, discouragement, complacency, injustice, harmful policies, destructive habits, or the temptation to give up on ourselves and the future God is still shaping.

This week, choose one of these five areas and take one intentional step forward. We must maintain our faith and face the challenges before us with courage. We know that God has not given us a spirit of fear. We are not alone on this journey.  As we move forward together, let us unite in prayer for transformed hearts, healing in our communities, wisdom for our leaders, and unwavering trust in God's guidance.

For the sake of the generations that follow us, let us re-imagine the fight and fight wisely, love deeply, and stand faithfully.

Always look for the remarkable in your life.
