Now is The Time!

In the words of Ms. Fannie Lou Hamer, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.” How many mass shootings will it take before change occurs? How many more mass school shootings will claim the lives of our children before enough is enough? In 1999, Columbine High School was considered a pivotal watershed moment that changed school safety rules and prompted law enforcement to shift how they respond to active shooters. Unfortunately, since that time, we have continued to witness mass school shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and now Robb Elementary School, which have continued to claim the innocent lives of our children and teachers. This must stop!

As Christians, we must do more! We must walk to the polls, encourage one another, “if you see something, say something,” hold leaders accountable, train up our children, be positive role models, fear God, pray, go back to church, rededicate ourselves to God, forgive, and love your neighbor. The Bible tells us in, Exodus 20:13, Thou shalt not kill, John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Psalm 147:3, He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Now is our time to take action! This issue is not a partisan issue. It transcends race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and geographical location. As the famous quote states, “if not us, who? And if not now when?” Again, now is our time to act. We have to do something! Our children and our future as a country are dependent upon us doing something to stop this madness.
